Connect to the umd-guest Wireless Network

Umd-Guest wireless 

The umd-guest wireless network is available for guests to the University of Maryland, College Park. The network:

• Provides guests with 24 hours of access to the UMD-guest network after creating an account.
• Allows you to connect up to three devices per account. Your account is based on your email/phone number combination).
• Requires your name, email address, mobile device carrier, and mobile phone number for account setup.
• Requires a device capable of receiving SMS text messages to complete account setup.

Connect with an Android device

1. Tap the menu button, then press Settings.
2. Tap Wireless and Networks. Tap to enable Wi-Fi.
3. Tap Wi-Fi settings. Press and hold umd-guest.
   
4. Select Connect to Network. Then, Sign in to Wi-Fi Network umd-guest.
   
5. Click Create a New Account.
   
6. Enter the following: First name, last name, email address, mobile number, and mobile provider.
   -The email address will become the user name, sometimes with a digit added to the end.
   -The mobile phone number is used to receive a PIN via SMS text message.
7. Click Register. You will receive confirmation that the account has been created.
   
   
   
8. An SMS text message with a PIN will be sent to the phone number provided. The message will arrive from itsupport@umd.edu. Enter your email address for Username and PIN # for Password. Select Sign On.
   
9. Select Accept to accept the Acceptable Use Policy. Now you are connected to umd-guest.

Connect with an iOS device

1. Press the Home button, then press the Settings icon.
2. Tap Wi-Fi. If the Wi-Fi is not enabled, tap the Wi-Fi OFF button to enable (turn on). Tap umd-guest from the list.
   
3. Select Create a New Account. Enter the following: First name, last name, email address, mobile number, and mobile provider.
   - The email address will become the user name, sometimes with a digit added to the end.
   - The mobile phone number is used to receive a PIN via SMS Text Message.
   
   
4. Click Register. You will receive confirmation that the account has been created. An SMS text message with a PIN will be sent to the phone number provided. The message will arrive from Division of IT.
   
   
   
5. Enter your email address for Username and PIN # for Password and click Sign On.
   
6. Select Accept to accept the Acceptable Use Policy. Now you are connected to umd-guest.
   

Connect with a computer

1. Navigate to your wireless network settings icon and click to view available wireless networks. Select umd-guest.
   
2. After you are redirected to the UMD Guest Wireless screen, select Create a New Account.
   
3. Enter the following:First name, last name, email address, mobile number, and mobile provider.
   - The email address will become the user name, sometimes with a digit added to the end.
   - The mobile phone number is used to receive a PIN via SMS Text Message.
4. Click Register. You will receive confirmation that the account has been created. You should also receive a PIN to enter as the password to sign on to your cell phone.
   
5. Log in with your email address and PIN number. Select Accept to accept the Acceptable Use Policy. Now you are connected to umd-guest.
