Microsoft Teams Basic Features

Sign into Microsoft Teams

To access Microsoft Teams features, go to teams.microsoft.com. Click Sign In and enter your university credentials. 

Create a new chat

Teams can be used to direct message someone or create a group chat.

  1. Select Chat.
  2. Click New Chat.

  3. Enter names or emails to add those people to the chat.
  4. Add a group name to the chat by clicking the drop-down button to the right of the chat participants.

Make an audio or video call

In an existing chat, you can click the phone icon to make an Audio Call, if you click the drop-down button to the right you will have to option to pick between an Audio Call or Video Call. Learn more about the call feature.

Join a team

Unless a team is public you will need a join code to join a team.

  1. Select Teams.
  2. Enter the join code in the Join a team with a code field.
  3. Click Add Team.

Create a team

To create a UMD team, you must fill out the Request an Office 365 Group form.

OneDrive in Microsoft Teams

Select OneDrive to access your Microsoft OneDrive. You can use this to share files, track files you've shared, and upload files. Learn more about OneDrive in Microsoft Teams.
