@umd.edu email addresses can only be used with ChatGPT Enterprise. Personal purchases of ChatGPT Plus, Teams, or Pro must use non-university email addresses.
To protect university data and comply with UMD's Acceptable Use Policy, community members must only use @umd.edu email accounts for university business. ChatGPT Enterprise ensures no training on your business data or conversations, while Plus, Teams, and Pro may use data for model training purposes. For ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Teams purchased for individual use with a personal credit card, use a personal email account to sign up.

Email address restriction: OpenAI does not allow email address changes once an account is created.
Accidental personal accounts: If you created a personal account with your @umd.edu address, you can either:
Compliance reviews: The university periodically reviews @umd.edu accounts to ensure proper Enterprise usage. Non-Enterprise accounts will be transitioned to Enterprise or canceled based on user preference.
To request a ChatGPT Enterprise account, please complete the ChatGPT Enterprise License Request form.
NOTE: If you need to use the API, please refer to our knowledge article, Use the API for Chat GPT. Using the API does not require filling out the ServiceNow form or purchasing a monthly license.
Use your university email address in the main email login box at ChatGPT. You will be redirected to CAS to log in or you can choose UMD SSO.
DIT's Software Licensing team will provision the license.
Software Licensing will transfer funds from your KFS billing account at the end of the month. They will bill your account $30 dollars per month per user.
NOTE: If you have issued API keys with Teams/Plus, they should be re-issued before migration.
Your export link expires in 24 hours. After this window, your data will be permanently lost as OpenAI maintains no backups.

Data classification warning: While ChatGPT Enterprise supports Level 3 data, exercise caution with custom connectors or any connectors that write data to external systems. Verify that destination systems support appropriate data classification levels before enabling connectors that could transmit sensitive information. Send the request to software-licensing@umd.edu to create a Service Now ticket. Include the directory IDs of the people who will be removed. The request can come from the original license requestor or the person holding the license.
