Reconnect to WiFi (eduroam Wireless Network) and Gmail After a Directory Passphrase Change

After changing your Directory Passphrase, steps must be taken to reconnect to various services that require you to sign in with your Directory ID. Below are the steps that macOS, Windows and iOS device users can take to reconnect to eduroam and UMD Gmail. 

Reconnect your Windows eduroam

  1. Click the WiFi icon in the taskbar and select Network & Internet Settings.

  2. Select Wi-Fi from the navigator on the left of the screen.
  3. Click Manage Known Networks.

  4. Find and select eduroam. Then click the Forget button.

  5. Reconnect to eduroam, signing in with your Directory ID and new Directory passphrase. Remember to sign in with your DirectoryID@umd.edu.

Reconnect your Mac to eduroam

  1. Click the WiFi icon in the upper right corner of your screen and select Open Network Preferences.

  2. Highlight Wi-Fi in the list on the left side of the window and then click the Advanced button in the lower right.

  3. Find eduroam in the list, select it and click the minus sign button to delete it. Then click OK

  4. Reconnect to eduroam, signing in with your Directory ID and new Directory passphrase. Remember to sign in with your DirectoryID@umd.edu.

Reconnect your iPhone or iPad to eduroam

  1. Tap the Settings icon then open your Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Find eduroam in the list and tap the button encircled i icon to the right of it to it. 
  3. Select Forget this Network.
  4. Reconnect to eduroam, signing in with your Directory ID and new Directory passphrase. Remember to sign in with your DirectoryID@umd.edu.

Reconnect your Android or Chrome device to eduroam

  1. Tap the Settings icon then open your Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Find eduroam in the list then tap the Settings icon to open. 
  3. Select Forget.
  4. Reconnect to eduroam, signing in with your Directory ID and new Directory passphrase. Remember to sign in with your DirectoryID@umd.edu.

Reconnect your iPhone or iPad to Gmail

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll down and tap Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Select the account name that corresponds to your UMD Gmail account.

  4. You should see a message saying There was a problem accessing your account. Tap the link that says Re-enter Password. If you do not see the error message, try opening your email inbox and refreshing the inbox, then come back to this screen again.
  5. A message that reads Settings Wants to Use google.com to Sign In should display. Tap Continue.
  6. Verify that the email address displayed is your DirectoryID@umd.edu and tap Next.
  7. Log in and complete multi-factor authentication. You are now connected to your UMD Gmail.
