Record a Webex Meeting, Event or Training

Webex offers a built-in video recorder that lets you record sessions hosted in the Meeting, Event, and Training Centers. Only the host or an alternate host can record a meeting. You can set up recording before a session or activate it during a session.

NOTE: Webex videos are stored for 180 days. Download your Webex videos before they are deleted.

Set up recording before a session

  1. Log into UMD Webex
  2. Start your Webex meeting in your Personal Room or the Meeting Center using the Classic or Modern View Dashboards. If you are starting a Event or Training Center session, it is recommended that you use the Classic View Dashboard. 
  3. Click MeetingEvent, or Session menu.
  4. Go to Recorder Settings. Verify there is a check or dot beside Record on This Computer.
  5. Go back to the MeetingSession, or Event menu.
  6. Select Start Recording to open the Save Recorded Meeting As window.
  7. Enter a name for the recording into the File name: field. Select a destination to save the file and then click the Save button. The Recorder Panel will open.
  8. If you would like to include audio in the recording, check the Record PC Audio box. This will enable Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) audio to be recorded along with video. However, only the presenter's voice will be captured in the recording.
  9. On the Recorder Panel, press the Record button to begin recording. You may pause your recording at anytime by clicking the Pause button on the Recorder Panel.
  10. Click the Stop button on the Recorder Panel to stop recording.

Once you have recorded your session, you can access the recording from your designated save location, or you can download the recording from Webex.

Record during a session

Start recording

While you are in a Personal Room meeting, follow the steps below to start recording:

  1. Click Record.

  2. The Recorder pop-up window will open. 
  3. Click Record to begin recording. You and the participants see a red icon when recording is in process.

Pause or stop recording during a session

To pause or stop a recording, go to the Recorder pop-up window:

Click the Pause icon to pause and resume the recording

  - OR -

Click the Stop icon to stop recording.

After Recording

When the meeting ends, you will receive an email with the recording link soon after the session has concluded. Delivery of this email depends on the recording size, site bandwidth, and other factors. This enclosed recording link can be shared with participants. On April 1, 2019, Webex recordings that are over 180 days old will be removed, and recordings will continue to be limited to 180 days of retention. If you would like to save your recordings before they are deleted, you can use the download button in your recordings and store the downloaded file in your UMD Google Drive account, or a storage location of your choosing. To learn more, read about Playing, Downloading and Sharing Webex Recordings.

Downloading, Converting and Sharing Recordings

Recordings from Event or Training Center sessions are saved in ARF format and may need to be converted before being viewed or shared. Recordings from Personal Room and Meeting Center sessions are saved in MP4 format.
