University of Maryland Box shared accounts are now available for colleges/departments and other groups affiliated with the university. Members of a University of Maryland Box shared account can upload and share files without affecting their individual University of Maryland Box account quotas.
All University of Maryland Box shared accounts must have two or more owners who are responsible for account administration duties such as allocating folder space and adding/removing members. University of Maryland Box shared accounts are hosted by Box and managed by University of Maryland's Division of IT. All rights and responsibilities established in the UMD Policy on the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources apply to the University of Maryland Box service.
Faculty and staff users of this service should be aware of the UMD Data Classification Standards.
Box shared accounts are better suited to the storage of data that needs to be maintained beyond the lifecycle of an individual account, and when data will require specific security and retention controls.
UMD offers Group or Department accounts in Box but no longer provide Student Organization accounts. Instead, student groups should use a Box-group account. Because students rotate too frequently to maintain the required co-owners, the UMD sponsor for the student organization can submit the request and designate a second UMD co-owner.
The functionality of all shared Box accounts remains the same:
The annual renewal and two-co-owner requirement allow us to automatically monitor when Box content is no longer relevant and should be purged. If an account is not renewed or lacks two co-owners, it may be subject to deletion. However, we understand that mistakes happen-content can be restored for an extended period if needed.
