Download, Install, and Configure Tivoli Storage Manager for Linux


This solution assumes that you have completed the node registration form for Data Backup Services and that you have received a confirmation email from the Division of Information Technology (IT) confirming your node registration. 

Download and install the Tivoli software client for Linux

1. Open the confirmation email you received from the Division of IT detailing the node information you will need to configure the client. In the email you should see information that looks something like this:

TSM INSTANCE NAME:                                      
SERVER ADDRESS: 
SERVER PORT: 
SECURE SERVER PORT: 
NODE_NAME: 
INITIAL PASSWORD: 
TECH CONTACTS: 
BILLING GROUP: 
DOMAIN_NAME: 
OPTION_SET: 
SCHEDULE_NAME: 
LICENSE DESCRIPTION: 

2. Download latest binary that is supported on your operating system from TSM Client Downloads (TSM).   

3. Open a Terminal Window and ensure you have a root shell with su or sudo su.

4. cd to Downloads directory and unpackage the tar file.

[root@localhost Downloads]# tar –xvf <downloaded file .tar>

5. Install the 64-bit GSKit Package:

[root@localhost Downloads]# rpm -U gskcrypt64-8.0.14.43.linux.x86_64.rpm gskssl64-8.0.14.43.linux.x86_64.rpm

6. Install the TSM API and confirm dependency installations:

[root@localhost Downloads]# yum localinstall TIVsm-API64.x86_64.rpm

[root@localhost Downloads]# yum localinstall TIVsm-APIcit.x86_64.rpm 

[root@localhost Downloads]# yum localinstall TIVsm-BA.x86_64.rpm      

7. Add the TSM Client Acceptor Daemon service to services:

[root@localhost Downloads]# chkconfig --add dsmcad

[root@localhost Downloads]# chkconfig dsmcad on

8. Refer to Division of IT confirmation email contents:  

Edit /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.sys with the following settings.  Substitute the INSTANCE NAME, NODENAME,TCPSERVERADDRESSTCPPORT settings with the values in the confirmation email.

SERVERNAME            <TSM Instance Name>

NODENAME             <NODE_NAME>

TCPSERVERADDRESS     <SERVER ADDRESS>

TCPPORT              <SERVER PORT>

COMMMETHOD           TCPIP

PASSWORDACCESS       generate

MANAGEDSERVICES      schedule

errorlogretention    30 d

schedlogretention    30 d

9.  Edit /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.opt with the INSTANCE NAME used in the dsm.sys file above.

SERVERNAME                   <TSM Instance Name>

10. Start the TSM CLI and authenticate to the TSM server with the node_name (as user id) and the password provided in the confirmation email:

[root@localhost bin]# dsmc
