With Google Chat history turned off, messages sent will be deleted after 24 hours. This makes the chat appropriate for communication where a record is not kept.

1. Go to mail.google.com and select Chat on the left side bar.
   
2. Under Direct messages or Spaces, select the chat you want to turn the history off for.
3. Select the title of the chat on the top of the chat window.
   
4. Click Turn off history.
   
   
5. After history is turned off, You turned history off will appear in the chat.
