I want to record my lectures, but not exams and certain activity days. Is there an easy way to do that?

The scheduler allows selecting all events on the calendar or selecting individual events. You can select all events and then deselect days with exams or other activities you don’t want recorded.

Does my recording automatically become available to students or can I manually publish the recording later after editing?

The recording will automatically become available to students. After the recording is complete, you can move the recording to a different folder in your Panopto recordings until you can complete your edits, and then move it back into your course folder.

During class

I want to try this, but class sometimes goes a few minutes over, and I don’t want to miss anything.

Using the classroom touch panel controls, you can add extra recording time in 5 or 15-minute increments. The extra time can be added at any point after the recording begins, so you can even add it right at the top of class. Keep in mind that if there are other scheduled recordings in that room the same day, you won’t be able to extend over those recordings.

I tried the automated recorder, but I didn’t get any audio. Can I get it back?

Typically, the issue is not using a microphone. In all classrooms with a Recorder, you need to use the provided microphones to capture audio. Always use the touchpanel controls at the beginning of class to check that the microphone is transmitting. On the recording page, verify that the meter on the left moves up and down with your voice. Unfortunately, we can’t recover the audio if the mics are muted or not used.

Can I use the recorder with a personal device?

Yes, in easy mode on the touch panel, whatever you send to the projector most recently is what you send to the recorder. In Advanced Mode, whatever you send to Panopto is what you send to the recorder. You can double-check what is being sent to the recorder in the recording controls at the top of the touch panel

Can I pause my recordings during breaks of long classes?

Yes, in the classroom touch panel controls you can pause, un-pause, or stop a recording, so you don’t record breaks or post-class chats with students.

The Automated recorder captures the image of my PowerPoint slides, but my students find it helpful to navigate the lecture using slides. Is there a way to do that?

If you want to add your slides to a recording after it is complete, you can add them manually by following these instructions. If you want the slides to auto-advance along with the video, this is not available with the automated recorder. For more info, you can refer to Panopto's support page on adding and editing slides.

I’m trying to make my recordings more accessible. Can I add auto-generated captions?

You can, just like when you use the traditional Panopto software; you can add captions to your automated recording. Refer to this article on Panopto Captioning and Audio description for more information.

What if I don't need the camera footage of me teaching?
