REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a web-based application for building and managing surveys and databases. It is designed to support research studies, clinical-trials, and other online database needs.
A project in REDCap is a single, separate, and distinctive collection of forms, data fields, and participant records and represents a single research study or data collection initiative. In certain cases, research studies or data collection initiatives might span multiple projects in REDCap.
University of Maryland, College Park and University of Maryland, Baltimore form a single research entity that leverages strengths of both universities to advance interdisciplinary research and foster innovation. This relationship provides a foundation for the agreement between institutions to maintain a single REDCap service supported by the UMB Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), and the UMB Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) that is available to all researchers at both universities.
The service includes access to a REDCap instance for research that does not involve medical system data, a REDCap instance built specifically to protect medical system data, and support from the ICTR REDCap admins.

The following summary text is recommended for use in your grant applications and other efforts that require a description of the service:
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, web-based application designed exclusively to support data capture for research studies. REDCap provides: an intuitive interface for data entry (with data validation); audit trails for tracking data manipulation and export procedures; automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to common statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R); and advanced features, such as branching logic, calculated fields and data quality checks. REDCap is developed and maintained by Vanderbilt University and licensed free of charge by the University of Maryland Baltimore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) for use by The University of Maryland, Baltimore and University of Maryland, College Park, together considered a single research entity. Only relevant study personnel have access to the data, and the instance is secured to cybersecurity standards consistent with the University System of Maryland Security Standards 5.0. The application and data are housed on servers provided by the Center for Information of Technology Services (CITS) at University of Maryland Baltimore. REDCap servers are behind the institution’s firewall and are maintained by CITS. The servers are backed up daily, and back-up data are saved for 35 days.
