With Google Chat history turned off, messages sent will be deleted after 24 hours. This makes the chat appropriate for communication where a record is not kept.

1. Go to mail.google.com and select Chat on the left side bar.
   
2. Open a specific chat (person or group).
3. Click the name at the top of the conversation.
   
4. Click Turn off history.
   
   
5. After history is turned off, You turned history off will appear in the chat.
