How to Request or Retire Open Learning Administrator Access

In this article:

Open Learning Administrators submit courses for approval to Extended Studies (openlearning@umd.edu), and also oversee the creation and management of Open Learning courses offered by their units. These responsibilities require specific permissions on the Open Learning and ELMS-Canvas platforms.

Requesting Open Learning Administrator Access:

To gain permissions as an Open Learning Administrator, please complete the following steps:

  1. Enroll in and complete the "Open Learning Administrator Training" course.
  2. Complete and submit the on-line request form: Request for Administrator Access to Enterprise Instructional Technology Systems
    • Under Request Details > Options: Select only UMD Open Learning
    • Under Request Details > Other Notes / Comments: Provide the name(s) of the subcatalog(s) for which access is needed.
  3. Note: Supervisor approval is required. Upon form submission, your direct supervisor or unit head will be notified via email and asked to approve the request online.
  4. After your supervisor submits approval, you will be notified by DIT when your Open Learning Administrator system access has been granted.

More information about the roles and platform access of an Open Learning Administrator can be found in the following article: Administrative Access to ELMS-Canvas/ELMS Management Tool (EMT).

If you have any technical difficulties with the above form or process, please contact itsupport@umd.edu.  If you have questions regarding Open Learning courses or the course-approval process, please contact EXST at openlearning@umd.edu.

Removing or Transferring Open Learning Administrator Access

If you will no longer be serving as an Open Learning Administrator for your unit, please contact itsupport@umd.edu with this information, and, if known, indicate the person who should be taking over from you in this role.  The new Open Learning Administrator will need to follow the steps above to request administrator access for the respective subaccount(s) on the Open Learning platform.
