Reset passphrase for a Glue root account.


Issue

You do not have or do not remember the passphrase for your Glue root account.

Resolution

To reset the passphrase to your Glue root account:

  1. Browse to sims.umd.edu and log in via CAS if prompted.
  2. In the "Identities You Own" section, click on the "Reset Password" button in the "Actions" column in the row associated with your Glue root account.
  3. You will be prompted for confirmation, click on the "Reset Password" button in the popup window to confirm.
  4. You will then be redirected to another page confirming the submission of the reset request. A temporary passphrase will be listed on this webpage. Be sure to take note of this passphrse. You will need this in step 6!
  5. Wait. Your reset request will be processed within 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, continue with the steps below.
  6. With the temporary passphrase from step 4 above in hand, log into any Glue Linux server and change the passphrase to one of your choosing following the instructions here, KB0018299.
  7. Done! Congratulations, you've successfully reset the password for your Glue root account!
