Enable IMAP for UMD Email account


Issue

I am trying to set up my UMD email account in Thunderbird, using IMAP and OAuth2.  I receive an error Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password.

Environment

Thunderbird app for reading UMD email.

Resolution

NOTE: IMAP is enabled by default, and no additional steps are required from users. 

Clear cached Gmail credentials in Thunderbird:

  1. Go to Settings, then select Privacy & Security.
  2. Click Saved Passwords.
  3. Remove all Gmail/Google entries.
  4. Restart Thunderbird. You should be able to connect now.
