Install GlobalProtect and activate Connect Before Logon for Windows

The following guide contains information on how to activate and use the GlobalProtect Connect before Logon feature. More information about installing GlobalProtect can be found at access.umd.edu

Install GlobalProtect and activate Connect Before Logon

  1. Navigate to access.umd.edu, login and download the GlobalProtect Client by clicking GlobalProtect Agent at the top right.
  2. On the new page, select Download Windows ## bit GlobalProtect agent.
  3. Allow the installer to run. You may have to provide admin credentials for the installer to finish.
  4. Once the installer has finished, open the Command Prompt as an administrator by going to the windows start menu (press the ⊞ button) and typing cmd.
  5. Once the Command Prompt windows opens enter the following commands:

    • C:\Users\USER>cd "\Program files"
    • C:\Program Files>cd "Palo Alto Networks"
    • C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks>cd GlobalProtect
    • C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect
  6. Once you have navigated to the GlobalProtect Directory, enter the following command:

    • C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect> PanGPS.exe  -registerplap
  7. After you have entered this command, there will be no feedback. Command Prompt will simply start a new line.
  8. Add the Windows registry key.
    • Navigate to this path: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect\CBL
    • Value Name: TrustedIdpDomains
    • Value data: duosecurity.com

Use Connect Before Login

  1. The GlobalProtect Connect Before Logon feature is now enabled.
    • This icon that should now be present on the login screen.
      Double Computer icon.
  2. Click the icon and enter access.umd.edu as the portal.
  3. Login with your credentials on the UMD Authentication Screen.
    • Once you have logged in you are connected to the VPN.
