Typical things that might cause LBD to freeze
Several things can cause LockDown Browser (LDB) to freeze. These occurrences are more likely as demand on the internet and local wireless capacity has escalated and students are no longer taking ELMS-Canvas quizzes in University of Maryland classrooms or computer labs.
- An Internet or network outage.
- Slowdown or timeout.
- prevents LockDown Browser from submitting or receiving information from the server.
- Students with low bandwidth or intermittent wireless issues can be affected.
- The LMS server itself has slowed so significantly that LockDown Browser is waiting on a response or the LMS session has timed out altogether.
- LockDown Browser is suppressing or hiding an error message or pop-up window.
- Possibly from another window or application, you did not close. Preventing you from clearing the message and continuing on your way.
- The quiz-taker is running a secondary monitor while attempting to take the quiz.
Prompt to download LockDown Browser while already downloaded
Steps to avoid this include:
- After downloading LDB and closing all windows and browsers on your computer, launch LDB.
- Log in to your ELMS-Canvas course and navigate to the quiz in the Quiz tool.
- Do not access the quiz through the Calendar, to do links or Announcement reminders.
- Doing so can result in a warning from Lockdown Browser that you still need to download the browser when you try to take the quiz.
The University of Maryland cannot troubleshoot these issues for you. You can get support from the Respondus Support website directly.
