This guide will allow the instructor to use the audiovisual (AV) features in the General Purpose Classrooms to provide a multimedia experience.
The AV touch panel will have a blank screen and may be on the instructor's lectern or on a wall adjacent to the lectern. To wake up the AV touch panel, tap the screen once. The welcome screen will display the name of the individual that the space is reserved for, the class/event name and the time reserved. At the bottom of the screen the user is prompted to Tap the screen to begin.
To see the schedule of the room for the day, tap the calendar icon at the top of the touch panel.
To access room controls, tap the welcome screen to start the system.
The next screen shows the basic home page. The touch panel indicates whether or not the display source(s) are warming up or cooling down. There might not be an image on the projection screen(s) until this process completes.
NOTE: The touch panel found in the classroom may not exactly correspond to the one shown in this guide due to different room configurations. If there is a desire for further clarification on the touch panel in the instructor's assigned classroom, contact DIT Classroom Support at 301-405-2500.
To power off system, watch the video below.
In all learning spaces that include classroom PC's, PC Main is the default source for both the Monitor and Projector destinations.
If the room contains a classroom computer, it is usually located at or near the teaching lectern so that the user can easily insert CDs, DVDs, etc. to display in the classroom.
All of the room's source buttons will be shown in the center of the touch panel screen. The source button's indicator light (in the left upper corner of each source button) will show green if it is active (plugged in and turned on) and red if inactive.
Below are two examples of an active and inactive source:
The active source being shown on the displays in the room will be highlighted in yellow.
To select a different source, press any of the source buttons in the center of the touch panel screen. In Easy Mode, selecting a different source routes that source to all projectors/monitors.
To enable or disable advanced mode, watch the video below.
In standard classrooms there will usually be a single Projector destination button. In lecture halls and TERP Classrooms there may be multiple projector destination buttons, listed numerically (Projector 1, Projector 2, etc.) In rooms with multiple projectors, the user may find signage posted adjacent to each with the corresponding number.
In some rooms there is more than one Monitor on the lectern and in these spaces, the user will be able to route a source to that extra monitor if desired.
In some lecture halls and TERP Classrooms, there may be Confidence destination buttons, listed numerically (Confidence 1, Confidence 2, etc.). These correspond to the confidence monitors facing the instructor. They will by default show the same things as the corresponding Projector (ie Projector 1 matches Confidence 1).
In Advanced Mode, each display destination shows feedback about which source is routed to that destination. The first time Advanced Mode is opened, the user will see that the display destinations are defaulted to PC Main (as detailed in the image below).
To route any source to any display destination, tap the source button and then the specific display location. This example shows that the Doc Camera has been routed to Projector 2.
To route any source to any display destination, watch the video below.
The volume source above the "Mic Mute" button can be controlled via the large volume slider on the right-hand side of the touch panel. The user can also mute the volume source by pressing the speaker button located directly under the slider. If there is a microphone in the room, the user also has the option to mute the microphone(s) by pressing the microphone icon.
NOTE: Muting this (global) microphone symbol mutes all of the microphones in the space.
Volume source and microphone audio can also be adjusted by selecting the slider icon in the upper right hand corner of the touch panel next to the question mark. From there the user can raise, lower or mute the audio output of the program or microphone(s).
To control the audio output of the program or microphone(s), watch the video below.
In some larger classrooms, there might be both wireless microphones and a lectern microphone. In these classrooms, the instructor has the option to mute either microphone source.
If a source has audio, an Audio Source indicator will show in the lower left-hand corner of the source button. The Audio Source indicator can only be seen when the Advanced Mode panel is open. By default, the audio source heard in the room is the last source with audio that was routed to a display. If the Audio Source indicator is grayed out, this audio is not active.
In the video below, Wireless Sharing was routed to Projector 2 and the Audio Source indicator is active. To switch to PC Main audio, press the Audio Source indicator for PC Main.
To enbale/diable advance mode, Watch the video below.
If no audio is coming from the source, make sure that the Audio Source indicator is active on the source button, and/or the volume source control is not muted
The room instructor can easily notify Classroom Support by selecting the question mark icon in the upper right hand corner of the touch panel. On this screen two options will be displayed, Request Help Now and Report an Issue:
If the room is scheduled the instructor of record's email address will be automatically populated in the Directory ID or Email. The auto-populated fields of Directory ID or Email and Issue: Send a technician can be changed.
To inform the classroom support of an issue, watch the video below.
If a source has additional features that can be controlled via the touch panel, this is indicated by 3 small dots in the lower right hand corner of the source button.
To control the source via the touch panel, watch the video below.
The PC Extend source acts as a second screen/monitor for the classroom computer. Instructors can display content to two separate displays from the classroom computer by utilizing both the PC Main and PC Extend source buttons.
Additionally, this feature enables Presenter View mode in PowerPoint, which allows the teacher to be able to see their notes, upcoming slides and timer, while the class only sees the current presentation slide on the PC Extend screen. To learn more, view this PC Extend Quick Guide for Classroom.
If there is a desire to stop displaying the video source to all projector(s) in the room, select to Tap Blank Screen Off at the top of the touch panel. The projector image(s) will now be blank. The same button will now blink red and read Blank Screen: On, tap the button again to resume showing the image(s) on the screen(s).
Some rooms with multiple projectors have the option to blank a single destination. For those rooms the user will see a Blank Screen: Off button within the details of the Projection Screen details page. Pressing Blank Screen: Off for the projector will turn off the source image for that screen only. The Blank Screen: Off button will turn red, blink and read Blank Screen: On. Pressing this button again will turn the source image back on.
To stop displaying the video source to all projector(s) in the room, watch the video below.
To navigate to the Lighting window, select the Lightbulb icon at the top of the AV touch panel.
The Lighting window will give the user the ability to adjust the light levels with 5 different pre-set buttons.
To navigate to the Shades window, select the Shades icon at the top of the AV touch panel.
The Shades window will give the user the ability to adjust the classroom shade levels with 5 different pre-set buttons.
NOTE: not all classrooms have the option for the shades to go up.
Select the 3 dots in the lower right hand corner of the Camera button to control the camera in the classroom. The user might need to open Show Advanced Mode to see the camera button(s). If a room has only one camera it will be located at the back of the room and have buttons with three presets to view the Room, the Presenter (focused on the lectern position) and the Screen. The controls also allow the instructor to move the camera right-to-left, up-and-down and zoom-in-and-out.
Most lecture halls and TERP classrooms have multiple cameras, usually with one camera at the rear of the classroom and one in the front of the room to capture the audience.
In most of these rooms, the user should see signage next to the camera indicating if this is Camera A or Camera B. It is important to make sure the correct camera is selected on the camera control, because it may be different from the camera that has been sent to the Projector or Send to PC destination buttons. Once the correct camera is selected, the controls are the same as those in a standard classroom.
If the room has cable TV, this will show up as a source button in the middle of the touch screen. Select the 3 dots in the lower right hand corner of the source button to access the device controls.
If the room has a Blu-ray, this will show up as a source button in the middle of the touch screen. Select the 3 dots in the lower right hand corner of the source button to access the device controls.
Once the scheduled event in the room has ended a Meeting Ended pop up window will appear on the touch panel. Select Power Off Now or Keep Using Room. If the Keep Using Room option is selected, the system will switch to the next scheduled event in that room for that day.
If using the classroom computer (PC Main) for a Zoom or Panopto session, the user must send a source to the Zoom/Panopto destination in order to see content.
