Before you follow these instructions please check the following:

1. Make sure the network cord fits snug into the wall jack and into the network card itself.
2. With your computer on and cord plugged in, check to make sure a green light is lit up on the back of the network card. If you do not see a green light, try switching the cord with a new one.
3. Make sure the network card has correct drivers loaded.

Windows 10

1. Click the flag (Start) then select Settings.
2. The Settings panel will open. Select Network & Internet.
   
3. The Network & Internet window will open. Select Wifi then under the Related Settings section, select Change Adapter Options.
4. In the Network Connections window, locate your local area connection icon and right-click on it. 
   
   • Ignore any icons that shows VPN or Wireless. Click Properties.
     
5. The Local Area Connection Properties window will open. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click the Properties button.  NOTE: Depending on your security settings, windows may need your permission to continue. Click OK.
6. The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPV4) Properties window will open; verify that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are both selected.
   
   • Keep these default settings and toward the Bottom of the window, click the Advance button.
     
7. On the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, click the DNS tab. UNCHECK Register this connection's addresses in DNS so it is not selected. 
   
   • All other settings stay the same.
     
8. On the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, click the WINS tab.
9. Select Enable LMHOST lookup and Default then click OK.
   
10. Click the OK button on the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then on Ethernet 2 Properties windows.
11. Click the OK button on the Local Area Connection Properties window.
12. You should be looking at the desktop. Open your browser window and the University of Maryland's Network Registration Page should appear.
13. Follow the instructions to register your jack. Once your jack is registered, you will have full access to the internet.

Windows 11

1. Select the Start button, then type settings. Select Settings > Network & internet.
2. Select Wi-Fi > Manage known networks. Choose the network for which you want to change the settings.
3. Next to IP assignment, select Edit.
4. Under Edit network IP settings or Edit IP settings, select Automatic (DHCP).
