Test and Schedule Tivoli Storage Manager Backup for Macintosh

This solution assumes that you have completed all steps successfully in Download, Install, and Configure Tivoli Storage Manager for Macintosh. It also assumes that you have the confirmation email provided by the Division of Information Technology (IT) on your machine's backup registration.  This solution will help you configure your TSM backup services responsible for performing scheduled backups on your Macintosh system.  It will also take you through the steps to perform a small backup to test server connectivity and authentication.

  1. In Applications open the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) folder. Double-click TSM Tools for Administrators application.

  2. The TSM Tools for Administrators window will open. Click Start the Client Acceptor Daemon then OK.

  3. If successful, a pop-up window will appear indicating that your backup services are running in the background. The TSM Tools for Administrators window will open. Click Tivoli Storage Manager then OK.

  4. If you have a login and password set up on your computer you will be prompted at this point to log in. Enter your computer's information (may not be the same as your Directory ID and passphrase). Click OK.

  5. The Welcome to IBM Tivoli Storage Manager window will open. Click Backup.
  6. The Backup widow will open, click to open the drives that you want to backup.

  7. Check the files and folders you want to backup, then click the checkbox beside the files you wish to backup and click the Backup button.

  8. The Task List window will open and show you the status of your backup request.

  9. Once completed, a Backup Report window will open to show you a Detailed Status Report. Your backup is complete. Exit the TSM Client GUI.

With services and backup connectivity configured and tested, your system will backup according to the TSM schedule entry provided in the confirmation email.  If your backup fails or is missed, an automatic alert is generated each morning that will email all technical contacts for the machine. It is the responsibility of the client administrators or users to correct any alerts and errors that may be received from the Division of IT.
