This solution assumes that you have completed all steps successfully in how to download, install, and configure Tivoli Storage Manager for Windows. It also assumes that you have the confirmation email provided by the Division of Information Technology (IT) on your machine's backup registration. This solution will help you configure your Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup services responsible for performing scheduled backups on your Windows system. It will also take you through the steps to perform a small backup to test server connectivity and authentication.
1. Click on Start then select Backup-Archive GUI.
2. On the TSM Login window, enter the password you received from the confirmation email. It can be found under the Initial Password.
3. The Tivoli Storage Manager window will open. Click Utilities from the menu then Setup Wizard.
4. On the Welcome to the TSM Client Configuration Wizard window, check Help me configure the TSM Client Scheduler. Click Next.
5. On the Scheduler Task window, click Install a new or additional scheduler. Click Next.
6. On the TSM Scheduler name and location window, the TSM Scheduler name should be TSM Client Scheduler and check Use the client acceptor deamon (CAD) to manage the scheduler.
7. On the Web service name window, keep the default settings. Click Next.
8. On the Option File Name and Location window, keep the default listing. Click Next.
9. At the Web Client options window, keep the default port number (1581). Click Next.
10. On the TSM Authentication window, enter the password you received from your confirmation email and click to select Contact the TSM Server to Validate password. Click Next.
11. The Service login options window will open. Click to select Automatically when Windows boots. Click Next.
12. The Log file names and locations window opens. Keep the default setting. Click Next.
13. The Start Option window opens. Select Yes then click Next.
14. The Confirm and Apply your configuration window opens. Click Apply.
15. The Completing your configuration window opens. Click Finish.
16. Exit the TSM Client GUI.
This step is required to successfully complete authentication to the TSM server.
1. Click on Start then select Backup-Archive GUI.
2. If you have authenticated correctly to the TSM server, the Welcome to IBM Tivoli Storage Manager window will open. Click Backup.
3. The Backup widow will open, click to open the drives that you want to backup.
4. Check the files and folders you want to backup and click the Backup button.
5. The Task List window will open and show you the status of your backup request.
6. Once completed, a Backup Report window will open to show you a Detailed Status Report.
7. Your backup is complete. Exit the TSM Client GUI.
With services and backup connectivity configured and tested, your system will backup according to the TSM schedule entry provided in the confirmation email. If your backup fails or is missed, an automatic alert is generated each morning that will email all technical contacts for the machine. It is the responsibility of the client administrators or users to correct any alerts and errors that may be received from the Division of IT.
