Terrapin Tech FAQ: How to Buy a Service Plan for Your Macintosh

You are eligible to purchase a service plan from the Terrapin Technology Store for your Apple computer if it meets the following criteria:

  1. It was purchased from an Apple Authorized Reseller, such as an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store.
  2. The customer can provide proof of purchase that shows the computer's serial number and that it was purchased within the last 9 months.
  3. The computer passes a visual mechanical inspection to determine it is free of accidental damage.

Terrapin Tech offers two service plans: AppleCare Protection Plan and Safeware Protection Plan. The AppleCare and Safeware Protection Plans extend the limited warranty coverage from the date of the computer's purchase. AppleCare also extends the phone support coverage to the duration of warranty.

With AppleCare, you have global repair coverage while Safeware is limited to the United States.

AppleCare does not cover accidental damage. Safeware covers accidental damages, such as drops, liquid spills, and cracked screens.

Safeware does have a limit of liability on the coverage. The limit of liability is equal to the price of the product at the time of purchase. For example, you buy the 4-year Safeware plan with a laptop at the educational price of $1399. You would be covered for up $1399 of repairs or for 4 years - whichever comes first.

AppleCare Protection Plan:

Your AppleCare Protection Plan includes replacement coverage for a defective battery for the duration of the protection plan.

Safeware Protection Plan:
Coverage does not include consumable items, such as the battery due to it's failure or leakage.

Loaner Machines

With either plan, you are eligible for a loaner laptop to use if Terrapin Tech is repairing your computer and needs to keep it for an extended period of time. This service is available for the duration of the protection plan.
