This document reflects the Division of Information Technology current minimum recommendations for Macintosh computers for use by students, faculty, and staff at the University of Maryland. The intention is to recommend both hardware and software for a system that will remain useful for the next few years.

NOTE: All currently available Macintosh systems meet these specifications.

Macintosh Systems Hardware Recommendations

Processor: Apple M2 or M3.

Memory: 8 GB or above.

Hard Drive Capacity: 256 GB SSD or more.

Removable Storage: A flash drive and external hard disk is recommended to backup and transport files.

Macintosh Systems Software Recommendations

Operating System: macOS 12 Monterey and above.

TERPware is the software distribution website for the University of Maryland, College Park. Various software products are available for download and use by UMD students, faculty, and staff through agreements managed by the Division of IT between the university and software companies.
